Blessing of Hobbies

Trying my hand at writing today, a thought popped up in my mind. How would it be, had I learned plenty of sports, crafts and activities in my childhood. Not spending all these years under the pressure of securing high grades. Learning all the subjects when I had least interest in most of them.
Looking back to my school days, what are the memories that bring a smile to my face. How many times do I feel happy recalling the percentage I secured in all those years, wait!! do I even remember how much I secured other than my high school and intermediate .. Did anyone ever asked me my rank among 60 students and did it ever made a difference. Well I know the answer and so do each one of us .. “No”!! What I always remember or like to cherish are the memories of my friends chit chatting, bunking classes, reserving the seats for our ever latecomer pals, annual functions, dance practices, sports day, annual fete, debates, making fun of teachers, giving them mean names, finishing lunch before recess, having a crush on some teacher and so many other things...
It is hard to understand being a child, into what are we molding ourselves into. Being an adult today I can see the picture crystal clear. Our interests, likes, passions make us who we are as an individual. Here comes into picture "the blessing of hobbies". We all like doing certain things, things that refresh us and make us feel happy and contented. Skills that we want to practice without any burden of grades and judgments. How easy it becomes to feel happy when we do something that we care about.. Then why we always ask our kids to “not waste time” and concentrate on securing high grades. The time spent in developing a passion is the most wisely spent time. It nourishes our mind and soul and let us connect with ourselves and appreciate the goodness of life. Hobbies taken to another level of dedication can be built as a successful career. Why running behind always being perfect, when the best memories are built on the most raw and imperfect times.
Pick a hobby, anything you care about and start to care deeply about it and the rest will follow. There are ample of hobbies one can choose from. Always keep yourself busy doing things you love without worrying about the returns. Be good at what you love and the doors of success will be open for you. The brain will find a way to go up the ladder for what heart loves doing. Don’t be a book worm if you don’t like it, doesn’t worry about the future, your present will build it into a beautiful path. Even if you have an unsatisfying career, hobbies will help you remain content. So always encourage yourself and your kids to be anything but a forceful learner. They will grow into beautiful human beings with a strong mind and nourished soul.
